Barnett Nearly Notches Double-Double as Chargers Fall to Braves

GALESBURG — Connor Barnett (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) finished a rebound shy of a double-double, but Black Hawk was lights-out from long range in handing the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team a 96-80 loss on Tuesday in the Chargers’ Arrowhead Conference opener.

KEY MOMENT
Atem Agot (East Moline, Ill./United Township) drilled a 3-pointer with 17:00 left to pull Sandburg (11-7, 0-1) within 43-42, but the Chargers would never get that close again as the Braves responded with an 8-0 run. Black Hawk finished the game 17 of 38 from 3-point range, with 10 of those makes coming in the second half.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Barnett reached a season-high in scoring for the second straight game, finishing with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting. He also grabbed a team- and season-best nine rebounds, finishing one board away from his first career double-double.
